Mazi Obi Okoli-Ojeluigbozi Calls for Justice and Peace in Nigeria

London, UK — The President of the Igbo Board of Deputies UK and Coordinator of the Congress of Igbo Leaders UK, Mazi Obi Okoli-Ojeluigbozi, has called on the international community, African leaders, and the Nigerian government to uphold justice, end the unlawful detention of British citizen Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and stop the ongoing attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria.

Speaking on the state of human rights and national stability, Mazi Okoli emphasized that “nations that uphold justice and liberty thrive on one foundation, respect for the rule of law. When justice is delayed or denied, societies lose faith in the very systems meant to protect them.”

He noted that Nigeria now stands at a crossroads, facing two urgent human rights challenges that demand both national and international attention: the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu despite multiple court rulings ordering his release, and the persistent violence against Christian communities in parts of the country.

“Mazi Kanu’s case has become a test of Nigeria’s commitment to lawful governance,” he stated. “Upholding his legal rights is not just about one man, it is about restoring confidence in Nigeria’s justice system and affirming that no individual or government is above the law.”

Expressing concern over continued attacks on civilians, Mazi Okoli condemned the growing insecurity and humanitarian crisis affecting Christian populations across Nigeria’s Middle Belt and other regions. He described these incidents as “deeply distressing” and called for decisive government action, noting that “every Nigerian life is sacred, regardless of faith or ethnicity, and it is the duty of the state to ensure equal protection for all citizens.”

He urged the international community, including the British government, human rights organizations, and faith leaders, to renew their engagement in promoting peace, justice, and reconciliation in Nigeria through constructive diplomacy, transparent investigations, and sustained humanitarian efforts.

Mazi Okoli further condemned the demolition and destruction of Igbo owned properties in Lagos, criticizing the perceived silence of authorities. He warned that “where any part of the country is unsafe or unjust for a particular group, it undermines the very principles of equity, fairness, and justice.”

He called on Igbo people and Christians across Nigeria to take lawful measures to protect their lives and property, emphasizing that unity, peace, and justice must remain the guiding principles in their struggle.

“Freedom under law, protection of all citizens, and the rule of justice must prevail,” Mazi Okoli concluded. “It is time for Nigeria to show that no cause is beyond the reach of justice and that every citizen, regardless of belief or background, deserves dignity, safety, and freedom.”
